The Closer Mission Field

For so many years I've focused a great deal of my time and energy on preparing for our future mission work, and rightly so. There was four years of Bible college, a year of Seminary, and now we're in language school studying Spanish that we may better share the truth of God's Word.

But what about the closer mission field? My first and most important mission field is that of my family. I do want to see that nations changed by the gospel and I want to see healthy churches reflecting the character of God and worshiping Him rightly. These must be my second concern however. The closer mission field is that of my children. They need the Lord as well and I will give an account on Judgment Day as to how I obeyed God's word in raising them.

If great numbers of people are turned to God and many pastors are trained in the faith and lead their churches closer to God on account of Him using us, but my children are neglected and thus never repent and trust in Christ, there would be cause for joy on the one hand but also cause for much weeping. If our children never turn from their wicked ways to the only Savior from sin it will cause us much sorrow.

Therefore, I must remember that I cannot overlook the closer mission field while seeking to help another. With the Lord's help we can impact both fields balancing our responsibilities rightly.

A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother. Proverbs 10:1

A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish man despises his mother. Proverbs 15:20

My son, if your heart is wise,my heart too will be glad. Proverbs 23:15
