12 Years Together

Today my sweet wife and I celebrate 12 years of marriage. On this day 12 years ago when I was looking into her eyes saying our vows I didn't think I could love her more. The truth is I do love her more today then I did then. Not that my love for her then was less; it was as full as it could get. But my capacity to love her has grown.

I believe experiencing life makes a couple grow closer together and in their love for one another. When we first got married we'd not yet experienced the pains of miscarriages or the joys of having children, the sacrificial love of nursing the other back to health or the contentment of knowing the other was well again, the patience of living with a leaner bank account or the thankful times of having plenty, the loneliness of missing the other while on a trip or the satisfaction of having the other back again, the irritation of a disagreement or the joy of making up.

These things, experienced by a man and woman, deeply in love, who have committed themselves to one another before God in a sacred covenant of marriage, cannot help but make you love your spouse more.

My love tank is on full, just as it was 12 years ago, but my tank has grown. This bond that was made back in 2000 is only getting stronger and we both know that Christ is the glue. Would we even have a desire to make this marriage work without Him? Maybe, but the motives would be selfish I'm sure. Would we have made it this long without Him? Possibly, but would we be more in love than we were on our wedding day? Would we be the people towards each other and God that we need to be without Christ? Absolutely not! He gets all the glory for these 12 wonderful years and He's the only One who can make a marriage sweet, successful, and truly satisfying.

I love you angel! Happy Anniversary.
