Advanced Low!

Well yesterday was my last day of language school. It's been a good but slightly difficult year. Thank the Lord He got me through it. We're that much more prepared for Belize.

A wonderful professor (Graciella) I had in my first trimester came to our house to give me my comprehensive evaluation today. It's basically a 20-30 min. oral exam where you are asked all kinds of questions designed to get you talking. The questions become progressively more involved requiring you to give facts, opinions and personal experience. So all I've learned about masculine and feminine nouns, adjectives, articles, gerunds, past, present, future, conditional, mandates, passive voice, prepositions, pronouns, subjunctive...it was all put to the test.

The test is designed to show you how advanced you are in your ability to speak Spanish. I believe the categories go like this:

Beginner Low, Medium or High
Intermediate Low, Medium or High
Advanced Low, Medium or High
Superior Low, Medium or High

Drum roll please...I placed Advanced Low. I was so pleased and thankful to be in the Advanced category at all. As far as I know no student has ever place in the Superior category after studying for one year here. I was told that Superior would mean that someone can carry on pretty involved intellectual conversations, but there are even some Latin Americans who can't do this. So, the fact that I placed Advanced anything made me very happy. However, I still have a long way to go.

Thank you to all of you who gave so sacrificially and prayed so faithfully. Por su generosidad, Dios me ha ayudado a aprender Espanol.
