One Arm

Samaritan's Purse is an organization that distributes boxes of gifts to children in poor countries. Sometimes they do it for disaster relief and other times for Christmas. Eight thousand of these boxes arrived in Belize this year and will be distributed as late Christmas gifts in Feb.

An undertaking like this has many parts to it, especially when it comes to getting boxes to children waaaay out in the bush. I accompanied Bob recently to help be an "arm" for the Samaritan's Purse project this year. We were responsible for distributing necessary forms and giving vital info. to those churches that are interested in being recipients. Our friend, Manuel Coy, came along as well because he speaks Kekchi, and since I speak some Spanish we were covered.

The farthest village we visited was 21 miles off the pavement. Thank the Lord we had a tough truck; the roads weren't friendly. We visited 4 or 5 different villages and the entire trip took about 6 hours. We got stuck in the mud, the windshield wipers stopped working, and one of the truck's belts came off (in that order). We were able to push the truck out of the mud, manually move the wiper back and forth, and all three of us managed to get the belt back on in the rain. It was an interesting trip to say the least.

Our part was just one arm of this project. Those of you who packed boxes a few months back were another. When the body works together, it glorifies the Head, Jesus Christ.
