I'm writing to ask that you please pray for one of my students. Her name is Angelina Nicholas of Boronco village. What's unique about Boronco is that it's home to Garifuna people. Their roots are from Africa and some of them still practice their African ancestor's ways. For example, Angelina's village is home to a voo-doo temple. Since she's become more serious about her Christian faith (receiving my training) she's getting a hard time from some people there in her village.
She asked that I pray for her and so I am asking you to do the same. This form of voo-doo is called doo-goo (spelling?) and years ago it used to have larger presence here in town.
We heard of a conversation that took place between one of the doo-goo leaders and a local Garifuna pastor named Mario. The doo-goo leader told Mario that the spirits told him that they can't move the temple back to town because it said, "There's a light there."
Wow! John wrote, "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. (1:5).
Please pray for Angelina's protection and spiritual growth. She's excited about her training but has really had a lot of obstacles since she began.
