Before God

This morning I asked Samuel and Iva a very important question. It's a question I sometimes ask in witnessing conversations in order to find out what the person is really trusting in. The response shows if a person trusts in their own works to save them or in Christ.

So I asked them, "If you were to die right now and stand before God and He asked you, 'Why should I let you in heaven?' What would you say?"

I was pleasantly surprised by their answers. For one reason, I've never had anyone (even the adults I've asked) answer the question rightly before. Secondly, their answers showed their thinking was biblical and from the heart. Thirdly, as their father I was just so happy they said what they did.

Samuel responded, "Because You've forgiven me, and You died to take the punishment for my sins." My eyes got wide because, to my shame I suppose, I was not expecting such an accurate answer from my 7 year old. Wow!

Iva's response was touching. After I put the question to her, "What if God asked you "Why should I let you in heaven?" she paused. Then she replied with a smile, "I love You." I could blog a long time about why that answer is also biblically accurate. I smiled really big, of course. Thank you Lord!
