Well, I began the Bible training program today for two new students. They were excited (though you can't tell by their picture) and so was I. By the way, most Kekchi people think they are giving you a good picture when they do a serious face. So, they're not trying to look smug, they're trying to give me a quality photo.
I learned I've got my work cut out for me. Most older people here have less schooling since the education regulations weren't as strict back then. Also, by and large, the Kekchi people have been somewhat neglected in that area anyway. Today I had to explain what words like "prior", "effective", and "demonstrate" meant. They're not dumb, they're just not well educated in English. If I could teach them in Kekchi, wow! That would be great. But since I'm light years away from doing that, English will have to do. A slower pace will be needed, but maybe that's a good thing.
Please pray for these two men (Jose and John). They have great influence on their people and you can be sure I'll be encouraging them to pass on what they learn.
We're off to a good start!
