Martin Luther was a 16th century theologian, Bible translator, preacher and writer. Though there were others before him he is known for “starting” the Reformation. He sought to reform the Catholic Church by getting it back to the truth of the Word of God from which it had strayed. He was so ravished by the Word of God and bound to it he realized that leaving all to take the good news to others was really no sacrifice at all, but rather a dutiful delight. He translated the Scriptures into the modern German of the people and so “took” the truth to many that they may be educated in and believe the Word of God.
In one of his famous hymns he said the following:
Lets goods and kindred go
This mortal life also
The body they may kill
God's truth abideth still
His kingdom is forever.
