The Circus Comes to PG

The Ponce Circus is in PG this weekend. The Ponce family began in Mexico in the 19th century and are still going. It's small compared to Ringling Bros. of course, but has a lot of character. We went last night and had a blast. Except for the half naked lady doing hula hoops and one clown's dancing act that got a bit inappropriate, it was a lot of fun. For PG, this is a really big deal. Both shows sold out last night. We were some of the last ones who got into the 6:30 show, which is why we're sitting right up front.

One thing that's interesting about this small traveling Mexican circus is the fact that everyone involved pulls two or three jobs. The juggler was also the Ring Master and one of the dirt bike riders in the "Globo de la Muerte" (Globe of Death). The boy at the beginning was later selling candied apples in the stands, along with the youngsters that were flying around on the long scarves. So yes, it makes you do a double take when you're buying a Coke from the lady who was just performing in front of you 5 min. earlier.

Enjoy the video and get a taste of a real Central American circus, Ponce style.
