So, my sister sends me this pic and when I saw it I knew I would have to blog it. Yes, this is for real. Apparently Old Spice makes a deodorant in "Belize" scent now. It's even got little pictures of some ruins and the popular Blue Hole diving spot. Her husband bought some for both us guys. She said the label says it smells like "fresh air, guitar solos, and triumph." What?!
Ok, I can understand the fresh air part. That is one thing Belize has, at least in the rainy season when everyone's not burning stuff, but what's this part about guitar solos? Maybe Garifuna drum solos, but "guitar solos"? Has this person ever even been to Belize? And lastly, what's "triumph" about? What has Belize triumphed over? We can't even triumph over our own litter.
If it were going to be a true Belize scent it would need to have a mixture of these smells: humidity (not really a smell, but triumph isn't either), a hint of burning trash, fried fish, stew chicken, sweat, and a touch of mildew smell. Yep, that would about do it.
I have to wait until we go Stateside in July to try mine out. I'm sure it will take me back to Belize the instant I smell it though. Sniff, sniff. Ahhh...triumphant Belize.
